WELCOME BACK!!!

FIRST PARENT MEETING OF 08-09!
Monday August 25th 7pm in WHS band room
Come see what we are up to this year and planning for the future! We need your support - please come out!
First performance of the year:2008 PARENT PREVIEW!
On Friday August 29th we will perform everything we have learned during band camp for family, friends and community members. Students will be given 2 free coupons for food to give to their parents. We will be selling food to anyone who does not have a free coupon.

TIME: 6pm Dinner, 7pm Performance!
WHERE: Warren HS Justice Stadium

BAND CAMP
Band camp is the period of time before school starts that the band and color guard rehearses on an intensive schedule to make sure we are prepared for the beginning of a new school year. If we have a successful band camp, we will have a successful fall semester.

What makes band camp a success?
1. Attendance! We need everyone at camp every day, on time and ready to learn.
2. Attitude! A positive attitude will help students get through the long day.
3. Preparation! Make sure students are prepared for camp. Have you checked the needs list?
4. Parents! Yes, we need parent support to get through camp as well. Parents help serve food during camp to make sure students are well nourished and ready to learn.

August 18 - 22 *We (parents) feed students a snack and dinner. Students are not allowed to leave!	Noon - 9pm EVERYONE!
	Students need to be ready to rehearse BY Noon, so they should arrive 15-20 minutes early. *Students will be ready to be picked up at 9pm. Please be ready to pick them up at 9pm! Students need to be gone by 9:15pm!

Are you ready for band? THE TO DO LIST!
o Band Fee is Due Monday August 11th (cash or check Warren Band Boosters)
o $350 no discounts
o Minus $50 if you worked fireworks booth
o Minus $25 if you are signing up to help drive for the decal drive
o Minus $25 if you are paying on time!

o Band Hand Book forms Due Monday August 11th
o These forms are the last three forms in the hand book which was given out in June.
o If students do not have forms to turn in, they will be sent home.

o Tennis shoes that lace up (running shoes - no vans, keds, slip ons, etc.)
o Socks (must wear socks)
o PLAIN white t-shirt (we will be writing on them)
o Black Shorts (use your under armour shorts)
o Long Hair must be put up or in pony tail - out of face
o Sunglasses if you want
o MUST wear sunscreen!
o Hat? Must be warren hat
o Water Bottle with NAME on it! (I also recommend the camel back)
o Instrument in perfect working shape - get it fixed before camp
o Music/ Binder - was handed out in June
o Beach Towel
o Students need to shower and invest in good hygiene practices everyday before camp.
o NEEDS LIST - tuner, cleaning supplies, reeds, mouthpiece, lyre

IMPORTANT! NO CELL PHONES OR ELECTRONIC DEVICES ALLOWED! Students can bring them to camp, but must remain in their back packs turned off! Students will not be allowed to carry their cell phones or other electronic devices around with them or check them during rehearsals. If you need to get a hold of a student they can check their phone during nutrition break or dinner or you can simply come to Warren.

CELL PHONES and other ELECTRONIC DEVICES will be confiscated and held in Mr. Niemeyer's office until parent comes and picks it up.

CLOSED REHEARSAL! All rehearsals (including during the school year) are closed to the public. This includes anyone who is not a member of the band and color guard - friends, guests, family, etc. If you feel you need to observe a practice, please contact Mr. Niemeyer to schedule a visit. This rule is laid out in the band hand book.

***NOTE, Students will be sent home if any of the above rules or items is not completed/ adhered to. This is to insure that all families are on the same page with the rules and regulations that govern a safe and well maintained camp, practice and work environment.

First Football Game Reminders!
Every year it seems as though the first football game of the year is close to the start of the school year. This year is no different. The first football game is the SECOND day of school, Friday September 5th! Because of this, we have a special rehearsal on this day afterschool.

A couple reminders:
1. All band/ guard members wear their polo shirts to and during school on game days!
2. Students MUST bring their black duffle bags with their shoes, pants, socks, gloves, under armour - etc. ready to go - they will not have time to go home and get these items!

Friday Sept 5th Afterschool Schedule:

2:45-3:30pm Student free time
3:30-4:30pm Band Practice on field
4:30-5:15pm Band picnic - provided by boosters
5:30pm Change into uniform
5:50pm Warm Up for game
6:30pm March into stadium
6:50pm Pregame performance!
7:00pm game starts
8:00pm Halftime performance
9:30pm students dismissed to go home
